On Tuesday, 22 July 2025, at 1:00 PM, Dhoritri Rokhhay Amra (DHORA) and Waterkeepers Bangladesh jointly inaugurated a month-long tree plantation campaign in Pekua. The event took place at Pekua Girls’ High School and Pekua High School campuses.
The opening ceremony was presided over by Master Abul Hashem, the Headmaster of Pekua Girls’ High School and the Convener of the Salt, Fisheries and Agriculture Welfare Association. Nur Piyara Begum, Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate of Pekua Upazila attended the event as the Chief Guest. The Special Guests were Md. Safwanul Karim – Founding President of Pekua Press Club, noted journalist and education advocate, Md. Mizanul Karim – President of the Governing Body of Pekua Girls’ High School, Nur Mohammad – President of the Governing Body of Pekua High School and Azam Uddin – Joint Convener of the Salt, Fisheries and Agriculture Welfare Association. After the speeches, distinguished guests planted trees to formally inaugurate the campaign and distributed fruit and timber saplings among students. Delwar Hossain, Pekua Upazila Coordinator for Waterkeepers Bangladesh, announced that under this month-long initiative, saplings of fruit and forest trees will be planted and distributed across educational institutions throughout Pekua.
The event was moderated by Master Kamal Uddin Dulal, Headmaster of Pekua High School. Attendees included governing body member Harun-ur-Rashid, Rajakhali Union President Abdul Halim, social worker Nazmul Haque Chowdhury, along with teachers, students, and community members from various educational institutions.
