A discussion meeting was held with the fishing community and local residents in an open area of Mesta Union, Jamalpur Sadar Upazila, on August 30, 2024. The attendees, including fishers and community members, gathered at Chatla Beel at 3:00 p.m. for an exchange meeting aimed at improving their living standards.
Mr. Md. Lutfur Rahman, a member of Bir Mallikpur Fishermen’s Association Ltd., presided over the meeting. The event was organized by Catch of Jamalpur and Waterkeeper Bangladesh, in collaboration with Bir Mallikpur Fishermen Samity Ltd. and a representative from Jamalpur.
Mr. Md. Moshiul Alam, a columnist and researcher, spoke at the event, discussing the rich heritage and potential of Chatla Beel. The chief guest, Mr. Md. Amir Uddin, an educationist and political leader, elaborated on the concept of “Jal Jaar Zila Tar” and the importance of development initiatives for Chatla Beel. Hundreds of fishermen and local residents attended the event.
