The body of Tarit Chakma (55), who went missing after being swept away by the Maini River in Dighinala, Khagrachari, has been recovered. A fire service diving team recovered his body from the Noapara area of Babuchhara on the Maini River at around 8 am today, Saturday.
Earlier, Tarit Chakma drowned in the river while collecting driftwood on Friday morning. He is the son of the deceased Nanda Lal Chakma of Ketuchandra Karbaripara in Dighinala. After his disappearance, local residents along with a fire service diver team were conducting a rescue operation in the river to search for him.
Dighinala Upazila Executive Officer Amit Kumar Saha confirmed to Prothom Alo that Tarit Chakma’s body has been recovered. He said the body has been handed over to the family. In addition, the upazila administration has given financial assistance of Tk 25,000 to the family of the deceased.
Dighinala Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Zakaria said the body was handed over to the family after preparing the post-mortem report. A case of accidental death has been registered at Dighinala Police Station in this incident.
