Friendly Football Match and Tiger Parade to Raise Awareness for the Protection of Tigers and the Sundarbans

On Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at 4:30 PM, a friendly football match and a tiger parade were held at the Mithakhali Bazaar field in Mongla to raise awareness for the protection of the Royal Bengal Tiger and the Sundarbans. This event was organized in observance of World Tiger Day by “Dhoritri Rokhhay Amra (DHORA),” Pashur River Waterkeeper, Waterkeepers Bangladesh, and the WildTeam.

The opening ceremony of the event was chaired by environmental activist, central leader of Dhoritri Rokhhay Amra and Pashur River Waterkeeper Md. Nur Alam Sheikh.  Agriculturist Mohammad Shamimur Rahman Shamim, Central Research Secretary of the BNP and General Secretary of the Arafat Rahman Koko Sports Club attended the event as the Chief Guest. In his speech, he emphasized the need for greater awareness to protect tigers. He called for halting international tiger smuggling networks and resolving human-tiger conflicts near the Sundarbans so people can become “tiger-friendly.” The tiger parade showcasing the importance of tiger conservation was performed by VTRT (Village Tiger Response Team) members of the WildTeam. The football match was played between Mithakhali Union and Chandpai Union, creating community enthusiasm around wildlife conservation. Before the game, Mr. Shamim inaugurated a month-long tree-planting program at Mithakhali Bazaar Mosque premises, organized by Dhara and Waterkeepers Bangladesh.
