Waterkeepers Bangladesh organized a series of courtyard meetings from October 6-9, 2024

To combat climate change and protect the environment of Pekua, Maheshkhali, and Matarbari in Cox’s Bazar district, Waterkeepers Bangladesh organized a series of courtyard meetings from October 6-9, 2024. During these meetings, local residents expressed their commitment to safeguarding their environment and agreed that the Matarbari coal-fired power plant poses the greatest threat to the environment. They acknowledged that carbon emissions from the plant are driving climate change and believe that phasing out the coal-fired power plant is essential for their region’s future.
