Debate on “Fossil Fuels Are Not the Solution; Only Renewable Energy Can Combat Climate Change” Held at Khajurtola Model College, Barguna

A special debate competition centered on the theme “Fossil fuels are not the solution; only renewable energy can combat climate change” was held at Khajurtola Model College in Barguna Sadar Upazila on Tuesday, May 20, 2025. The event, jointly organized by Dhoritri Rokhhay Amra (DHORA), Barguna, and Waterkeepers Bangladesh, began at 12 noon in the college auditorium.

Students from grades XI and XII participated in the competition, with the grade XII team securing victory. Enamul Mir, a grade XI student, was awarded the Best Speaker title. Other participants included Mushfika and Mumu from grade XI, and Sadia, Tamanna, and Sarmini from grade XII.

At the end of the competition, winners were awarded climate and environment-related books by the attending guests.

Distinguished guests at the award ceremony included Mostak Ahmed, member of DHORA Barguna; Md. Saiful Islam Sohel, Founder Director of Khajurtola Model College; Principal Israt Jahan Nipa; Bengali Department Lecturer Sabbir Mahmud; Member Secretary Mushfiq Arif; Al Amin; and other notable individuals.

The event made a meaningful contribution to raising climate consciousness among students and deepened their understanding of the vital role of renewable energy in addressing the climate crisis.
