The death toll from the ongoing floods has risen to 23 as deaths of two more people in Noakhali and one new in Khagrachhari were reported on Monday.
Among the deaths, six were in Cumilla, five in Chattogram, five in Noakhali, three were in Cox’s Bazar one each in Feni, Khagrachhari, Brahmanbaria, and Lakshmipur and districts while two persons are remaining missing in Moulvibazar district.
Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief’s shared the latest flood situation report, which was updated on Monday afternoon.
As many as 57,01,204 people have been affected in the flood in 550 unions and municipalities under 74 upazilas of 11 districts.
The 11 districts — Feni, Cumilla, Chattogram, Khagrachhari, Noakhali, Moulvibazar, Habiganj, Brahmanbaria, Sylhet, Lakshmipur and Cox’s Bazar — have been affected in the ongoing flood since August 20.
A total of 12,38,048 families have been stranded in the flood while 4,69,523 people took refuge at 3,834 shelter centers. A total of 28,907 cattle were also given shelter there.
A total of Tk 3.52 crore (cash), 20,650 metric tons of rice and 15,000 packets of dry food, Tk 35 lakh for baby food and Tk 35 lakh for fodder have been allocated for the 11 flood-hit districts.
A total of 645 medical teams are working to provide treatment to the affected people in the flood-hit districts.
The ministry said the flood situation, however, is improving, as water levels in all rivers starting to recede.
There was no significant rainfall in the past 24 hours in the eastern districts of Comilla, Brahmanbaria and Feni near the Indian Tripura border and within the internal basins of Tripura, said the bulletin of Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC) of the Bangladesh Water Development Board on Monday.
The trend of decreasing water levels in the upstream rivers continues. As a result, the ongoing flood situation in the low-lying areas of Feni and Comilla is improving.
Besides, the water level of the rivers in Moulvibazar, Habiganj district has come down below the danger level.
According to the data of meteorological agencies, heavy rainfall in the north-eastern region of the country and adjoining uplands in the next 48 hours is unlikely. At this time, the water level of Manu, Khoai, Dhalai rivers in Moulvibazar and Habiganj districts of northeastern region may decrease.
