On October 22, 2024, a workshop titled “Conservation of Habiganj’s Natural Beauty and Development of Sustainable Tourism” took place at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference room in Habiganj. This event, jointly organized by the Bangladesh Tourism Board, Habiganj District Administration, Dhritri Rokkhae Amra (Dhora), and Khowai River Waterkeeper, aimed to explore strategies for preserving the natural heritage of Habiganj while fostering sustainable tourism practices.

Advocating for a dedicated tourist police unit for visitor safety.

The event brought together key speakers and dignitaries, including Abu Taher Muhammad Jaber, Executive Officer of the Bangladesh Tourism Board; Deputy Commissioner Dr. Mohammad Zahirul Haque; and Additional DIG Mohammad Sakhawat Hossain from the Bangladesh Tourist Police. Also present were educators, environmentalists, and community leaders.

Tourism as an Economic Driver: Abu Taher Muhammad Jaber emphasized Habiganj’s tourism potential, highlighting sites such as Rema-Kalenga, Satchari, Lakshibaur, Sagardighi, and the old Khowai River. He underscored the need for enhanced safety measures, including a dedicated tourist police unit.
Sustainable Development: Deputy Commissioner Dr. Mohammad Zahirul Haque stressed collaborative efforts and the integration of sustainable practices into tourism initiatives.
Tourism Safety and Security: Additional DIG Mohammad Sakhawat Hossain announced the upcoming formation of a Tourist Police unit dedicated to ensuring visitor security and supporting tourism-related incidents.
