A discussion meeting followed by a tree plantation program was held in Jamalpur on Tuesday (June 24, 2025) on the occasion of World Environment Day 2025, in the hall and office premises of the Social Development and Training Center (SPK). The event was organized by the environmental organization “Dhoritri Rokhhay Amra (DHORA) and Waterkeepers Bangladesh” Jamalpur district branch. The program was moderated by Md. Enamul Haque and was attended by environmental organization workers, students, media workers and people from different walks of life.
The meeting was presided over by Md. Mahbubur Rahman Mohabbat. Eminent teacher and political figure Md. Amir Uddin spoke as the main discussant at the meeting. In his speech he said “Environmental protection is a long-term option, it is a cost of our existence. Awareness and effective initiatives are needed at this time”.
Social activist Dewan Abdul Malek and Journalist Dr. Md. Shafiqul Islam Azad Khan spoke as special discussants. They highlighted the dangers of environmental pollution, river erosion and plastic waste. Senior journalist MH Majnu Mollah, President, Bangladesh Manabata Forum, Jamalpur, also discussed the meeting.
Md. Aminul Islam, Executive Director of the Somaj Seba Jubo Unnayan Sangstha, and Bibi Hawa, the Executive Director of the Mohila Krishi Somity participated in the open discussion.
At the end of the discussion, the commitment to protecting the environment was reaffirmed through a tree plantation program.
